I may be a bit prejudice due to Wanda being a Friend and classmate in highschool. But one listen to her CD or observe her live and even those who are not aware of what a genuine, beautiful, spirit she had as a young lady will soon feel it through her emotive vocal performance. I'm a major fan of of the Divine Sarah Vaughn and stylistically comparisons may not be blatant. But as far as empathy, pain and soul their vocals both bleed and soothe equally. Its my opinion Ms. Wanda will join the Rev. Gary Davis from Laurens as the other Blues legend from the Upstate. It just a shame that most people in our country don't appreciate our great blues musical heritage and current performers. Respectively Sincere

Wanda, I am a new fan of yours after listening to your latest CD. SUPERB! It would be a great thing if you could perform in the Wilmington, NC area during the upcoming Blues Festival and/or the Azalea Festival scheduled next year. I believe the schedule for this year is now closed. We have a lot of blues lover's here so please look into it. If permitted, I can get more information on who to contact and get back to you. I arrived in this area 13 months ago from the Washington, DC metro area. I am originally from Charleston, SC and have played drums with Mr. Lonnie Hamilton, III, back-in-the-day. Also, my son, Lamont, play drums with the Shrimp City Slim band. Until I hear from you, May God continue to Bless you.

Dear Wanda: You are Truly Dazzling! I was introuced to your music throuh Mountain of Blues Host, Michael Cloeren. I AM SO LOOKING forward to your appearance at the Pocono Blues Fest in late July. The way you sing the ballads on both Natural Resource & Call Me MIss Wanda touch my soul...I love the whimsical upbeat lyrics/music of all of your songs like Hole in the Bucket, Hot Potato & your song about all the Blues Artists!! ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! Just this week, a flood almost occurred in Northeastern Pa. There was a mandatory evacuation. Your song, The River, helped me cope! Thank You! I'm ashamed of myself, and you know why.
But I'm so proud of you!
Ten years ago I heard you sing for the first time, and I knew I had to hear it again. You came and sang again, and I knew it should become a frequent visit.
Now we've got two outstanding releases showing the versatlity of Wanda's voice and writing, and the effect of the good hands (if shrimps have hands) of Gary.
I saw this years ago, and I'm not surprised. I'm only proud.

Blues Matters!

April 16, 2006

Hey, just a note that a review of your CD featured in the latest issue of Blues Matters!...I’ve included an extract below…"As soon as Wanda Johnson's voice resonates from your speakers there is a confidence, quality and regal air that great singers such as Aretha Franklin, Odetta and Nina Simone imbued. The promo sheet picks up on Wanda's soul and blues sounds, but neglects the fact that the lady has a lot of church to her pipes as well. Wanda's follow-up to her outstanding 2003 debut has been woefully too long coming. Even though this is a tasty disc, Wanda had such an impact on her debut with the beautiful......."

I work with Melissa Willis from Pendleton, SC. She told me to go on Wanda's Web Site. I really enjoy reading about someone who has made it in the music industry, especially from around this area. I met briefly with Miss Wanda at a charity event hosted by Compass of Carolina on February 10th. I was captivated by her soulful blues voice and her electric personality. So much in fact that I wrote and presented a oral report to my music class while playing track number two of her first CD. The presentation described the rhythm, texture, and medium of that song. The class was awestruck with her Carolina blues sound. I received a 100% on my presentation. I also passed around her CD, "Call Me Miss Wanda", to show off my very own signed CD by Miss Wanda herself.

Miss Wanda, if you're reading this I want you to know that I have become a huge fan after hearing you sing at the charity event. I've had the privilege of seeing BB King and Bobby Blue Bland perform in Spartanburg several years ago and it's my opinion that you are right up there with these two artists. I love your sound. I love that your music comes from the heart. Keep on keeping on!
